SINGAPORE (SNN) – The Melayu Sarawak was represented by Datu Dr. Sanib Said, General Manager of Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS) in the 19th Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam Covention (DMDI), Malay World Islamic World Convention, held from 16th to 18th November 2018 at Max Atria Singapore Expo in Singapore. More than 400 participants from 23 countries from around the world converge here to discuss social, economic and cultural collobration among the diverse Malay and Islamic commuities around the world. They came as far as South Africa and Australia.
The convention was officiated by Dr. Mohamad Maliki bin Osman, a Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore. He was earlier welcomed by the President of DMDI, Tan Sri Dr. Mohamad Ali Rustam who was the former Chief Minister of Melaka. The urged member countries to forge greater collobration in the fields of culture, economy and social even in at bilateral level in order to get things moving. Nonethelss each countries or communities could initiate their own programs to assist their own communities to achieve greater progress.
The host for this year convention was the Jamiyah, a dakwah and charity organization formed in 1932. Its chairman, Prof. Adjunct Dr. Mohd. Hasbi Abu Bakar, in his welcoming speech thanks Mohamad Ali Rustam for his tireless leadership in DMDI since its formation that should be emulated by all the members.
In line with the theme it was found that the halal tourism and trade could be the way to foster the social and cultural collobrations among member countries.
