Kota Samarahan, 4 February 2020 (SNN): Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) held Inaugural Lecture by Professor Dr Mohammad Zulkarnaen bin Ahmad Narihan, an established scholar and researcher in the field of Pathology.
Professor Dr Mohammad Zulkarnaen’s lecture was witnessed by YB Dr. Annuar Bin Rapaee, Assistant Minister of Education & Science & Technological Research Assistant Minister of Local Government & Housing, YBhg Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), YBhg Professor Dr Hj Ahmad Hata Rasit, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Deans and Directors of Faculty and Institutes, including top management and representatives from both public and private sectors, strategic partners, members of UNIMAS and students.
The title of his lecture is “A story of pathology and cancer”, whereby he shared his research in cancer studies. The study of pathology of diseases branched out as its own discipline under the big tree of medicine contributing to diagnostic medicine. One of the most daunting disease affecting mankind is cancer. This inaugural lecture provides glimpses of cancer cases from the eyes of a pathologist. The lecture provides insights on how cancer evolved, gaining malignant features such as resisting apoptosis, evading apoptosis and producing angiogenesis from a normal cell. It also highlights contributions of pathology in cancer treatment and answered a few questions regarding cancer.
