    Ranau, Mambong and Sabah struck by two minor earthquakes

    KUALA LUMPER (June 4): On Tuesday, 2nd of June, the Malaysian Meteorological Department reported two minor earthquakes, measuring 2.9 on the Richter Scale, affecting Mambong, Sabah and Ranau.

    Director-general of MetMalaysia, Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip states that the earthquake was detected at 10.36am. The earthquake was reportedly 10 kilometres below the surface of Ranau. He added that the epicentre of the earthquake was located at latitude 6.07° North and longitude 116.58° East.

    12 hours later, at 10.33pm, another earthquake was recorded at a similar magnitude of 2.9 and a depth of 10km. This time, in Mambong, Sarawak. Tremors could also be felt in the Samarahan and Serian areas.

    He assured the public that there was no reason to worry, as earthquakes at this scale are generally harmless. However, MetMalaysia will continue to monitor the situation and issue alerts when necessary from the Official METMalaysia website :
